Many parents tell us our staff is what truly sets us apart in quality from other summer camps.
How do we find the best staff for our camps?
- We utilize a four-round screening process for all camp positions
and hire fewer than 10% of job applicants
- Reference and background checks are performed on all staff
members
- All of our Lead Instructors are college graduates with experience
teaching kids
- We ensure our camper-to-staff ratio never exceeds 8:1 (or 6:1
for Nebulas)
- Galileo’s LEAD Program provides professional development
through training, ongoing observation and evaluations
Camp Directors Camp Directors provide overall leadership for our program sites. They manage all staff, observe instruction and lead all-camp activities throughout the day. Camp Directors are all college graduates with significant prior experience in leadership and education. Most importantly, they love working with kids!
Lead Instructors deliver all instruction in our art, science and outdoor activities, as well as participate in all-camp activities and ceremonies. These outstanding educators are all college graduates who, during the school year, work as classroom teachers, museum educators and in other youth development capacities.
Team Leaders are role models in charge of our camper teams who provide positive and friendly support to our campers. They lead groups of 10-16 campers through art, science and outdoor rotations, providing assistance to Lead Instructors, as well as helping facilitate games and ceremonies. Team Leaders are primarily college students with experience managing groups of kids.
Summer Interns assist the Camp Director and staff in classrooms and camp activities. Summer Interns are high-school volunteers training for future leadership positions at Galileo. Senior staff actively mentor Summer Interns to develop their skills.

“The content areas of Camp G are great, but it’s the staff that sets this camp apart. Every single staff member seemed to know my son, and the Lead Instructors knew how to make each and every activity fun and engaging. Their enthusiasm was infectious. On the first day of camp, the Director remembered my son from last year and greeted him by name before he even put on his name tag.”
